Knowing more than one dialect is useful

Just as speakers of lesser known languages learn English to have access to more business opportunities or media products, speakers of regional English dialects improve their business and social opportunities by becoming fluent in standard English.

Having more than one dialect at your command is like having more than one outfit in your wardrobe.  Clothing that is just fine for washing the car would probably not be appropriate to wear to a wedding or a job interview.
