The Rio Grande River forms the border between the state of Texas in the United States and the country of Mexico. It begins in Colorado and discharges into the Gulf of Mexico.

The name Rio Grande is Spanish for Big River. In Mexico the river is known as Rio Bravo del Norte, or simply Rio Bravo.
The English/Spanish equivalents for the words in these names:
rio – river
grande – large/big
bravo – fierce/brave
del – of the
norte – north

Thank you. I have little desire to master Spanish, but little tidbits like those above tend to stick with one.
