The conjunction is a joining word. Conjunctions join words and groups of words.
There are two classes of conjunction: co-ordinate and subordinate.
Examples of co-ordinate or coordinating conjunctions: and, but
NOTE: One type of coordinating conjunction comes in pairs: either/or, neither/nor.
Examples of subordinate or subordinating conjunctions: that, as, after, before, since, when, where, unless
Don’t worry about knowing all the conjunctions at this stage. Get the coordinating conjunctions straight first.

Don’t panic. There isn’t really that much to learn. We get out of school with the false impression that grammar is endless and incomprehensible because it is not taught in reasonable chunks.
